This herbaceous, spicy, clove-like oil is a great choice for our natural perfume artisans. Calamus oil has a long history rooting back to ancient Chinese herbalists, Egyptians, Greeks, European, and Native American cultures. Calamus is a very fragrant plant with its root being the most important part. Its rhizome is used as a spice, similar to ginger. Calamus oil's main constituents are alpha and beta asarone at a combined total of up to 90%. It's worth noting that beta-asarone is now considered to be a carcinogen and caution should be used with this oil.
