Like its close cousin, Blue Chamomile, Blue Tansy Essential Oil has an unmistakable deep, dark blue hue. The color is a result of careful steam distillation used to extract the oil from the flowers of Tanacetum annuum (Moroccan Blue Chamomile), a plant that grows wild in the lush Mediterranean Basin. During this process, both Blue and Moroccan Blue Chamomile produce chamazulene, a violet-blue compound well-loved for its calming and anti-inflammatory properties.
Our Blue Tansy EO is sweet, fruity, and herbaceous, with a complex scent profile reminiscent of fresh apple wine. It’s deeper and a touch more bitter than Blue Chamomile Oil, but its sweetness blends beautifully with many other essential oils, including Clary Sage, Helichrysum, Spike Lavender, and Rose.
Blue Tansy is best in low concentrations of 5% or less, and can be safely used in topical products with proper dilution. Use a gentle carrier oil like linden oil to enhance its floral nature, or maintain the purity of its scent with a neutral oil such as grapeseed or fractionated coconut.
